Zeds Dead Returns Us to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness

Who’s Zed? Zeds Dead, baby. Zeds Dead. The notorious quote from Pulp Fiction introduces the two EDM legends Zach and Dylan, otherwise known as Zeds Dead, and lights the fire behind their production. The two nights of Dead Rocks at Red Rocks were truly a spectacle and a big bang before they take a momentary hiatus. It’ll be sad to have them leave the scene for a minute, but they deserve the break after how much time and effort they’ve put into their Journey of a Lifetime Tour. This experience they gave the ravers of Colorado made history and left everyone speechless.
Night one of Dead Rocks, people began showing up to tailgate and hang out early, waiting to secure a spot in line so they could get good seats when the time came. These early arrivals showed everyone’s excitement and readiness to experience something magical. Everyone was decked out in their finest rave attire, and you could see beautiful souls everywhere you looked. Once the doors opened and tickets began to be scanned, people ran to their favorite locations and began claiming spots for themselves and their groups.
All the openers were phenomenal for both days, with MARAH, rSUN, Neumonic, SOTA, and Mary Droppinz on night one, and LUMBERJVCK, Hydraulix, Axel Boy, Baauer b2b Holly, and SIPPY on night two. Even for the openers, everyone was standing and dancing, warming up their bodies and minds for what was to come.
The surreal atmosphere on night one, once the sun went down, amplified the experience and was almost theatrical in a way, with every natural occurrence seeming to be planned. The moon was big and blood red, which is something you don’t see every day. It felt like it was meant for this show, and all throughout the crowd you could see people pointing and staring in disbelief. There was no rain in the forecast for that night, but as Zeds Dead came out, it started to mist and eventually turned into big raindrops, making the blue expanse of lasers glitter in a whimsical way. Behind the stage, the sky kept lighting up with thunder in the clouds, adding another level of surrealness to the show.
Days before Zeds Dead’s Red Rocks appearance, they released a new album and an accompanying movie, Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness). It was an exciting surprise for the Colorado rave community, as it meant they would be the first crowd to witness these songs performed live. Play the album they did, and it was such a beautiful thing to witness. The nostalgia and peace that this album made everyone feel were unreal, and it was such an incredible thing to witness.
Night one took fans back to the beginning of their journey as musical artists, starting with songs from the beginning of their career and moving along the timeline of their releases. It’s fitting for the name of their tour, Journey of a Lifetime, as it’s almost like they brought us along on their journey as artists. For all the day-one Zeds Dead fans, this was a treat and a show to remember.
Night two, they continued with their spectacular performance, playing their new and old songs and giving fans the diversified experience. They played songs I thought I’d never get to hear live, and it was such an exciting thing to be a part of. A lot of the time, artists won’t play their full songs and instead mash them together; however, Zeds Dead played the full version of basically every song, which everyone was thrilled about.
The crowd for Zeds Dead was immaculate, with everyone being so friendly and welcoming. It was as though you had come with the strangers around you; everyone became familiar in no time with their neighbors. It’s always such a blessing to have a respectful and considerate crowd, and that’s exactly the type of people that Zeds Dead draws in.
Overall, Zeds Dead provided a magical production and experience for the people of Dead Rocks and blew everyone away. They never disappoint, and these two nights were particularly special because they were their last Dead Rocks before they take a well-deserved break. You could really tell the amount of time and effort that these two men put into these shows, and it’s beautiful to get to be a part of their story and journey. We’ll miss you, Zeds Dead, but we know we’ll see you again when your time is right.
