Catch Hyd This Weekend in Fort Collins

Am I finally home? Hyd asks as she comes back to lines in her songs after the songs have taken us through portals of feelings driven by nature and industrials noises crashing.

“Music from the future, held in the past, released into the present,” is how her recent album, CLEARING, is described. Hyd will be presenting their version at The Coast this weekend – don’t miss it.

CLEARING captures the confluence of agency and surrender. Arranged cyclically over 11 tracks (released on 11/11), Hyd carries us through their elemental states of being: Fire (destruction), Ash (rebuilding), Garden (germination) and Air (emergence). In harnessing elements sonically, visually and conceptually, Hyd builds out a sensory world for their audience to hear, see, feel and breathe in.

Spawned from the PC MUSIC scene, Hyd is American performance artist Hayden Dunham who was listed as QT on the song Hey QT, though the music was a collaboration of English producer A. G. Cook, the late Scottish producer Sophie, and British singer Harriet Pittard.

Thankfully we got Hyd after as they have released some of the best songs of the past years with No Shadow released after the singer experienced temporary blindness. “Away from the light” is repeated as the listener feels in their gut the anguish and exploration of the situation.

The song Afar is probably my favorite music of the year. The Caroline Polacheck-produced track is a tribute to the guide Hyd had in their life during the period of losing her sight.

I listen to it from the perspective that “Not everything that is here you can see”

The recently released album is already garnering “best of” awards as Hyd challenges the listener to sit with the experience of the music even while moving to the grooves.

CLEARING was created throughout Los Angeles, London, New York and a series of volcanic islands.

It followed up a cover of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds‘ “Into My Arms” in January 2022, produced by Easyfun.
Hyd is going to bring the magic to Colorado, and the lucky ones there will feel the “untouched levels of vulnerability – dismantling interior structures and letting the frame fracture to spur a cyclical, sonic, visual and sensory evolution.”
