Denver rap artist ITSOKTOCRY is just beginning to hit his stride, producing serious thought-poems rife with angst and mega hooked. April 5th he released his latest LP Poshboy on Cleopatra Records.

Mental health, including anxiety and depression and bipolar disorder, have been kind of popularized by music and pop culture, and kids think it’s cool to have those things and they pretend to have those afflictions. When in reality those afflicted, including myself, are tormented every day.

His latest video, “BI-POLAR FREESTYLE” – shot by Boulder Media House – is getting mad views – and deserves it. From an artist press release:

ITSOKTOCRY’s music has been described as dark electronic, a rock/rap hybrid that sounds like a future Nine Inch Nails. Framed by his iconic green hair, the ITSOKTOCRY musical persona binds the bridge between music genres to create his own unique sound. A collision of emoticon-laden innocence and deeply felt torment that absolutely commands your attention. From guttural screaming, to beautiful melodies, his vocal range sets him apart from other artists, making this exciting new artist a pivotal leader in the new wave emerging from the rap genre.

Regarding the track, ITSOKTOCRY says, “I freestyled the whole song in a few minutes, but I’m basically just trying to get a message across. Mental health, including anxiety and depression and bipolar disorder, have been kind of popularized by music and pop culture, and kids think it’s cool to have those things and they pretend to have those afflictions. When in reality those afflicted, including myself, are tormented every day. That’s why I say things like “I don’t know why the hell you want to be like me, my life fu*** miserable I don’t know why you like me” in the song. It’s just me speaking my mind on the matter. I was in my feelings when I made it.”
