What a legend this guy. If you haven’t had the chance to see Fred again.. live yet, today is your chance.
Celebrating the release of his 4th album in three years (how tf), Ten Days, the UK lad launched his Places We’ve Never Been tour in Denver with two nights at Ball Arena (yesterday and today) plus his pop-up set at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre on Tuesday. Yeah sure Denver doesn’t quite fit the whole “never been” element, considering he toured here back in 2022, but I haven’t heard a single complaint yet.
Ball was buzzinggg, I absolutely adore preshow vibes man. It’s a combination of excited conversations, semi-hushed laughs, fit pics, pre-beers, and ambient venue beats that meld and create this beautiful hum that I can’t find anywhere else..it’s jus one of the most special feelings in the world to me.
The place was packed yesterday and I’m sure tonight is gonna be even busier. Fred did this really really cool thing and invited local artists to open up for each show on the tour (gonna send the sign-up link to my buddy in Seattle). Hometown kid Justin Jay was selected Denver along with his college recording buddy, who’s apparently now a lawyer and told his clients to reschedule when Justin got the call up.. what a G hahaha.
I’ve had the chance to see Fred live a few times now and while the overall set arrangement hasn’t changed much, he definitelyyy gave the show some new life by mixing in a few new tracks and live edits, and performing his sequencing/acoustic piano bits from 2 supplemental stages spread around the floor. On top of that, his team hired Humanprsn—the LA creative studio—to design/produce/direct one of the most beautiful and harmonious visual productions I’ve ever seen. I can say with near certainty this crew is going to be doing bigger and better shows very soon👏👏👏
The acoustic “Dermot” intro, “BerwynGestaffNeighbors” live edit, live intro to “Marea”, and finale transition from “Bleu” into “Delilah” were all peak moments you’ll only be able to experience live. But what stuck with me most was when Fred’s MPC froze on stage mid-track. While staff wired in a backup, he kept the crowd so dialed in that, I swear, half of them didn’t clock the technical difficulties—big ups to everyone on the team last night.
Hope to see y’all there for night two tn LFGGGG.
