Beach House Transforms Mission Into a Dream State
May 18, 2025Yo whatsup familia! Dream pop legends Beach House pulled up to Mission Ballroom last Wednesday night, and they’re sooo much more than that Space Song that you always hear on TikTok.
Considering Denver’s general music taste I should’ve expected the unbeLIEVAble queue-line before the doors opened yesterday; Beach House has played round Denver several times over the last few years and has def developed a loyal fan base. I checked out their website and thought it was really cool how they gave fans the chance to vote on their favorite songs and help determine the night’s setlist. Can’t say I’ve been a day one fan, but Beach House’s discography has been a place of comfort since moving to Denver. Victora Legrand’s light and airy vocals centered between swirling melodies, wave-like crescendos, and wonderfully complex synths textures create a tranquil sonic world to sit in.
Felt like everyone from that half-mile line was aiming for the front row so I posted up in my regular spot next to the sound booth with a couple friends. One of my buddies was a bit worried she was gonna get bored at the show because she’s never heard any of their records (she’s slowly getting into the live music scene), but she was engrossed as soon as Beach House took the stage—which imo really speaks to the duo’s commitment to the live experience. At one point Victoria even paused the show because someone forgot to turn their flash off while recording.
“Space Song” aside, “Lemon Glow,” “Silver Soul,” and “Wildflower” all had incredible live renditions. But track of the night I gotta give to “Wildflower,” the second and third verses are just some deeeep cuts. Def brings back nostalgic memories of my home state’s evergreens and nature—which I appreciate more now that I’m in the high desert. In general, their music just feels timeless. Like PPP woulda fit right in at Woodstock just as well as it does today. Overall maddd chill vibe and I’m excited for them to come back through town again.
