Los Angeles mainstay Silversun Pickups recently performed showcased their latest album Physical Thrills at The Ogden last Thursday night, captivating the sold-out crowd. Written during the Covid pandemic by lead singer and frontman Brian Aubert, the music from the new record mesmerized the sold-out crowd, showing off the band’s consistency and constant creativity.
The Pickups took us through some of their best material, like ‘Sticks and Stones,’ ‘Sacred Together,’ ‘Alone on a Hill,’ and ‘Empty Nest.’ Then they unleashed some of the classics; ‘Panic Switch,’ ‘Nightlight,’ and ‘Circadian Rhythm’ – one of my favorites – finally ending a night of absolute delight, serenading the sold out crowd with ‘Lazy Eye.’
I’m never unimpressed by Silversun Pickups’ drumming
Accompanied by Joe Lester on keyboards, Nikki Monninger on bass, and Chris Guanlao on drums, Aubert’s Silversun Pickups delivered an unforgettable night of music. From new tracks like ‘Sticks and Stones’ and ‘Sacred Together,’ to beloved classics such as the aforementioned ‘Panic Switch’ and ‘Lazy Eye,’ the brilliant performance was met with a sold-out crowd enthusiastically head-bobbing and singing.
Having seen these pros more than a few times, I’ve never been unimpressed by Chris Guanlao‘s thrashing the skins, something he did Thursday night with with sheer terror and intensity. Bassist Nikki Monninger intensely jumped around in her customary sparkling shoes and dress as she pounded away on her beautiful Red bass. Lester, tickling the plastic ivories, added the perfect touch, closing out that classic “Pickups” sound.
The sold-out Ogden crowd was not disappointed
With Aubert leading the way, the sold out crowd was not disappointed, all singing the night into its end, never missing one word! Silversun Pickups showed why they’re one of the most consistent bands I’ve seen – always satisfying and familiar, yet always new.
